Ahead of PM's visit, vigil intensified in Kashmir

Days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s November 7 visit to Kashmir, security has been intensified across the Valley to prevent any untoward incident.

Frisking operations have been intensified with police, army and paramilitary forces erecting barricades on highways and all the entry and exit points of Srinagar where Modi will address a rally.

Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, which will host the Prime Minister’s rally on Saturday, will be guarded by a multi-layered ring of security personnel. A top police official said security forces will take all precautionary measures for smooth conduct of Prime Minister’s  “As part of the security measures, the state police and central paramilitary personnel have launched multiple area domination operations, including random frisking of civilian vehicles. The security set-up will be further strengthened on a daily basis ahead of the prime minister’s visit,” he said.

The officer said the frisking of vehicles, setting up of checkpoints and patrolling would be intensified in the coming days but it would be increased gradually to avoid creating a scare. Security forces also have checkpoints during night hours in the city and are guarding the entry points into Srinagar.
