In a filmy style operation, a joint team of the South-East division police rescued a 30-year-old software professional and nabbed his kidnappers by luring them with a hefty ransom.

The arrested are Mohan, 31, a resident of Mico Layout; Kavitham, 29, of Ejipura; Senthil Kumar, 26, from Koramangala; and Shankar, a native of Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The other suspect, Firoze, is at large.

The police have recovered Rs 1.20 lakh in cash, a car and a fake gun from the suspects. The software engineer was kidnapped at gunpoint around 8.30 pm on November 4 near Kasavanahalli Gate.

How cops nabbed them...

The police, while assuring the victim’s wife they would accompany her in civvies to nab the suspects, asked her to call the kidnappers and tell them she was ready to pay them ransom.

On Friday, the abductors called her and asked her to wait near a private firm on Hosa Road with Rs 20 lakh in cash.

She went to the spot with the cash bag, while a few plainclothesmen accompanied her. When two men riding a bike tried to snatch the bag from her, the cops pounced on them and pinned them down.

The police later rescued the victim, who was bound, gagged and found in a semi-conscious state inside the bonnet of a car. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, the police told Deccan Herald. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime.

They said they intentionally picked a fight with the victim, threatened him with a fake gun and kidnapped him in his own car. The victim was assaulted and robbed of his belongings, including his mobile phone, which the abductors used to make ransom calls. The identity of the victim and his wife have been withheld for security reasons, said the police.
