Jet Airways has placed an order with Boeing for 75 fuel-efficient 737 Max single-aisle aircraft, the largest order from the Naresh Goyal-promoted airline in its 23-year history.

The decision to buy the new aircraft was announced at the biennial Dubai Air Show on Monday, a statement from Boeing said. Jet Airways currently has a fleet of 115 aircraft.
This “supports the airline’s replacement strategy to have the most modern and environmentally progressive airplane fleet,” it said.

The order, previously attributed to an unidentified customer, includes conversions of 25 Next-Generation 737s to 737 MAX 8s, as well as options and purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft.

The statement did not mention the value of the deal but the Boeing website said that one 737 MAX 8 aircraft could cost $110 million and the deal could run up to $8.25 billion.
However, the amount could come down as such deals are finalised following hectic negotiations on prices.

Follows mega IndiGo order
This August, low-cost carrier IndiGo had firmed up its provisional commitment of buying 250 ‘A-320neo’ aircraft Airbus, the largest orders in numbers for the European manufacturer that could fetch up to $25.7 billion. In 2011, GoAir had placed an for 72 Airbus A320 neo aircraft, which was valued around $7 billion.

The new single-aisle airplane will deliver 20 per cent lower fuel use than the first Next-Generation 737s and the lowest operating costs in its class — eight per cent per seat less than its nearest competitor.
