<p>Jet Airways has placed an order with Boeing for 75 fuel-efficient 737 Max single-aisle aircraft, the largest order from the Naresh Goyal-promoted airline in its 23-year history. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The decision to buy the new aircraft was announced at the biennial Dubai Air Show on Monday, a statement from Boeing said. Jet Airways currently has a fleet of 115 aircraft. <br />This “supports the airline’s replacement strategy to have the most modern and environmentally progressive airplane fleet,” it said. <br /><br />The order, previously attributed to an unidentified customer, includes conversions of 25 Next-Generation 737s to 737 MAX 8s, as well as options and purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft. <br /><br />The statement did not mention the value of the deal but the Boeing website said that one 737 MAX 8 aircraft could cost $110 million and the deal could run up to $8.25 billion.<br />However, the amount could come down as such deals are finalised following hectic negotiations on prices. <br /><br />Follows mega IndiGo order<br />This August, low-cost carrier IndiGo had firmed up its provisional commitment of buying 250 ‘A-320neo’ aircraft Airbus, the largest orders in numbers for the European manufacturer that could fetch up to $25.7 billion. In 2011, GoAir had placed an for 72 Airbus A320 neo aircraft, which was valued around $7 billion. <br /><br />The new single-aisle airplane will deliver 20 per cent lower fuel use than the first Next-Generation 737s and the lowest operating costs in its class — eight per cent per seat less than its nearest competitor.</p>
