The Federation of Resident Welfare Association, Communities and Establishments of Greater Whitefield (FORCE-GW), in association with Novo Nordisk Education Foundation (NNEF), on Sunday organised a ‘Diabetes Walkathon’ ahead of World Diabetes Day.

The walkathon was flagged off from Seegehalli Government School by Arvind Limbavali, the MLA of Mahadevapura constituency. Over one thousand enthusiastic people took part in the event, covering a distance of three kilometres.

Speaking on the occasion, Limbavali said, “With approximately 52 per cent Indians being unaware that they have diabetes, the need of the hour is to adopt an active lifestyle to stay healthy. Public-private partnership will go a long way in encouraging people to go out and be active.”

The event commenced with a yoga session for participants to warm up for the walk after which caps and t-shirts were distributed to the participants. The Diabetes Village was declared open by K P Nagesh, District Governor of Rotary Club.
