Rainfall dampens sale of firecrackers

Incessant rains that have dampened the festive mood in the City on Tuesday and Wednesday, is likely to continue for two more days.

With most people remaining indoors, fire cracker traders felt the pinch with demand for their products going down. The normally busy streets largely wore a deserted look this Deepavali due to the inclement weather.

A trader from Sri Lakshmi Bazaar, Rajajinagar, said, there was a 50 per cent decrease in the sale of crackers when compared to last year. Rama Reddy of Sri Manjunatheshwara Traders, Mahadevapura, said, the sale of crackers was better on Wednesday evening, while, it was less on Tuesday.

An official from the Meteorological Department said that there will be rain for two more days and would gradually recede. The forecast says a few spells of rain would occur on Thursday with temperature around 19 to 22 degree Celsius. While, there will be a generally cloudy sky and rain on Friday with temperature around 24 and 19 degree Celsius, respectively.

The department stated that the depression over north Tamil Nadu and the neighbourhood weakened into a well marked low pressure area on Tuesday noon and lay as a low pressure area over north Tamil Nadu and the adjoining South Interior Karnataka. It has become less marked on Wednesday.

There was rainfall at many places over South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka. While, dry weather prevailed over North Interior Karnataka. Davangere has recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 16.0 degree Celsius in the plains of the State.

Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office said that a couple of trees were uprooted in Rajajinagar and Banashankarai, which, they said were instantly cleared by their employees.
