JOIN USThis small and cosy cafe in Jayanagar is easy to miss but once here, you’re quite likely to feel at home in Flamenco because of its relaxed ambience and comforting grub. Run by passionate foodie Vishal Prasad, it serves classic continental, Italian and American fare and has found familiarity with the young crowd.
While deciding on and waiting for the food, one can engage in a game of Scrabble, Chinese Checkers, Ludo, Uno or chess. A few miniature vintage ads featured on two of the walls also add to the casual feel. Since they keep experimenting and adding new things to their menu, some of the specials are mentioned in bold on catchy coloured paper stuck on the doors.
However, it is the food that grabs maximum attention for one is spoilt for choice with all-day breakfast options like burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, pastas, steaks, sizzlers, waffles, hot coffees and much more. The ‘American Breakfast’ is one of their signature items.
“Our burgers are quite popular. While vegetarians can enjoy the ‘Herbed cottage cheese burger’ with a crisp inhouse seasoned patty, non-vegetarians can go for the juicy ‘Old school steak burger’ and ‘Lamb burger’, the latter being a rarity in South Bengaluru,” says Vishal. Those looking for meatier options in quick bites can devour the ‘Italian dog’ and ‘Hungry dog’ hot dogs.
For pastas, there is the ‘pink’ (mixed sauce), ‘American cheese and cream’, a delicious mild spicy pasta with chilli flakes, and spaghetti ‘bolognese and meatballs’. If one is game for something different, there are fresh leaf-based sauces like ‘Al cilantro’, ‘Spinach’ and ‘Pesto’.
Large meals like ‘Ala King’ (wine creme based sour sauce with herbed rice/mash/ bread), ‘Classic chicken steak’ and fish steaks do well to feed two people as do exotic sizzlers like ‘Garden sizzler’ and ‘Hot sausage sizzler’. The waffles, Vishal says, are worth trying along with tasty coffees like ‘Old Jamaican’ and ‘Tipsy Irish’. Weekend sweet treats include cheesecake and apple pie.
Currently, their ‘specials’ list features ‘smoked sausage and pesto soup’, ‘red bell pepper soup’, ‘pesto and broccoli soup’, ‘fish n chips’ and ‘spaghetti aglio olio’. “We constantly take feedback from our customers and since people wanted something spicy too, we introduced some pan-Asian favourites like ‘Thai curry’, ‘momos’, ‘oriental chicken’ and ‘chilli sausage’,” shares Vishal. The typical North Eastern style chicken and veg momos, with three different sauces, are simply delectable.
