FTII students slam Censor Board chief

Last Updated 17 November 2015, 19:15 IST

Describing Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani as the “propaganda machine” of the “current government”, the students of FTII on Tuesday called for his resignation from the FTII Society and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Nihalini, in an interview to a daily said that he plans to make a short documentary that exposes FTII students as “anti-nationals” whose only goal is to “bring down the Modi government”.

“I know these students and their alumni for many years. I know their worth. They may think they are geniuses because they managed to get attention but the industry is very patriotic and peaceful. With this kind of attitude, the students will never be able to adjust here,” he had said.

The FTII Students Association, however, asked Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore to seek his resignation. “Since the government hadn’t shown any positive gesture to rethink political appointments in the FTII Society, we will  continue to protest in all available platforms as we had announced earlier," the student body said.

“Nihlani who intended to ban a list of cuss words from Indian cinema without consultation or approval from his board members, recently rejected a censor certificate to the documentary film “Battle for Benaras” made by the FTII alumnus and eminent documentary filmmaker Kamal Swaroop for capturing the Modi-Kejriwal electoral battle.
