JOIN USUdupi Zilla Panchayat Savitha Shivanand Kotiyan said that the house had completely utilised the three per cent funds earmarked for the welfare of the physically challenged, out of the total funding released by the Zilla Panchayat.
She was speaking after distributing tricycles to the listed beneficiaries at the Zilla Panchayat on Tuesday.
The president said Kundapur, Karkala and Udupi Taluk Panchayats have also performed well by using the funds earmarked for the benefits of the physically challenged. "As many as 33 beneficiaries were selected under the provisions. The funds released under the 13th Finance Commission have been utilised for the purpose," she said, adding that the special funding provision is also used for the benefits.
She added that the differently abled with 75 per cent and above disability have been selected on the basis of the attestation by the medical officers. They are given training at Rudset, Brahmavar, for a duration of one week for driving and also skill development. The training is given free of cost, she said.
