Italian super luxury carmaker Maserati believes that India has big demand for luxury cars, according to Maserati India Head Bojan Jankulovski.

Briefing reporters here on Saturday after inaugurating the new dealership Jubilant AutoWorks for Maserati which will cater to South India, Jankulovski said, “India has big demand for our luxury products. That is why we have announced our re-entry into the Indian market in synergy with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India (FCAI) earlier this year.”

He added, “It is a new entry to India and we have to set up the right network in tier-I cities with the right product portfolio.” The state-of-the-art showroom located at MG Road in Bengaluru is in line with Maserati global standards, equipped with modern facilities with ample space and a display area of six cars. The service centre is located at the New Airport Road.

Maserati products include sports luxury saloon Quattroporte, its latest E-segment sedan the Ghibli, as well as the sports coupé and cabriolet, respectively the Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio. Their prices range from Rs 1.17 crore to Rs 2.2 crore. These cars will have a minimum three months waiting period. Jankulovski said the super luxury car market is around 3,000-4,000 units per year in India. “We are a very niche brand. Globally, over 70 million cars are sold in all segments put together. Out of 70 million cars we have sold 36,770 units in 2014.”

For Maserati, US (14,690 units) and China (9,400) are big markets globally, followed by Western Europe (6,360), Asia Pacific (4,000) and Middle East (2,050). It is the company’s second dealership in India following the official opening of its New Delhi dealership in September. The next dealership will be opened in Mumbai.

Jubilant MotorWorks CEO Subramanian K said, “Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the biggest markets in Southern India. Historically, Tamil Nadu has produced F1 racers,” he said, citing Indian race drivers Narain Karthikeyan and Aditya Patel. According to him, the south is witnessing a strong growth in luxury car sales.
