More than 1,700 posts on which differently abled persons were to be recruited are lying vacant with various departments of Delhi government.

The data was sought by the Delhi Commission for Women from the office of the Commissioner, Disabilities, after receiving complaints from differently abled women regarding insufficient employment opportunities available to them.

“It has come to our notice that Delhi government’s policy of providing three per cent reservation in government jobs to differently abled persons is not being implemented properly,” said Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal.

“We have been informed by the Office of the Commissioner (Disabilities) that as of now 1,758 posts are lying vacant in various departments of Delhi government on which differently abled persons were to be recruited, but the same has not happened till date,” she said.

The commission has issued a notice to the Principal Secretary, Services, of the Delhi government asking him to explain the reasons for posts lying vacant and not implementing the three per cent reservation policy properly.

“This is a very serious issue,” Maliwal said in her letter to Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar and sought reasons for no recruitment done so far.

She also sought details of the steps proposed by the department to fill these vacancies and timeline set for the completion of these recruitments.

“It is strongly recommended that the department ensures that adequate steps are taken to ensure equal opportunities for differently abled women,” the DCW chairperson said, asking Kumar to send the details by December 11.

According to the data with the DCW, the departments which have not recruited differently abled persons include Delhi Transport Commission, Education department, Health, Planning, Tourism, Delhi Jal Board, Development and civic bodies like South Delhi and North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
