Newly wed woman kills herself

In a dowry harassment case, a newly wed 24-year-old woman committed suicide at her house in B Narayanapura in Mahadevapura police limits on Friday.

According to the police, the deceased, Jyothsna, married Venkata Jagadish, a software engineer, 10 months ago. They hail from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.

On Friday morning, Jyothsna hung herself after Jagadish left for work. Her friend and neighbour tried to visit her but got no response. Her husband came home that evening and called her mobile phone.

When he received no answer he peeped in through the window and found her hanging body, said the police. He informed the police and her parents and the body was shifted for post-mortem. “Jyothsna’s parents came down to City on Saturday and said Jagadish was harassing her for dowry. They said she was upset about it and committed suicide. During the preliminary investigation, it was found that she had typed a message on her mobile phone and had sent it to herself.

The message said she was suffering from heartache and the treatment was expensive. Further, it said she did not want to be a burden to anyone and decided to end her life,” said the police. But the parents have lodged a dowry harassment complaint and Jagadish will be arrested after the final rites, said the police.
