Health Minister U T Khader, on Monday, said the department had decided to continue with the counselling system for posting medical doctors in the State.
“We have to be careful while taking a decision. If the counselling system is removed, it will lead to many problems,” he said and added that he would speak to Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa and convince him in this regard.
MLAs cutting across all parties, including the ruling Congress, and the Speaker had recently demanded that the counselling system should be done away with in order to ensure availability of medical doctors in rural areas.
Khader said the government would appoint 381 MBBS doctors and 87 dental doctors by this month-end. People in rural areas should treat doctors with respect. Strict action will be taken against those who take law into their own hands and manhandle doctors, he warned.
