Hydel power generation up in State'

Energy Minister D K Shivakumar has said that the power situation in the State has improved owing to the recent copious rains.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, the minister said that the rains have helped to increase generation of hydel power and the power deficit has come down to 1,000 MW from the earlier 3,000 MW.

He said that the State government was working out modalities for minimising the use of ceiling fans at houses. “Multiple fans at houses are consuming huge amount of energy and hence the government is looking at minimising their usage. The Energy department is also looking at the possibility of replacing tubelights without choke,” he added.
