Telecom regulator TRAI would examine low cost calling apps like Ringo and would take suitable action to address the concerns of operators, its chairman R S Sharma said on Tuesday.

"Trai has taken suo-moto cognisance of the service of the said application (Ringo). We are examining it and take suitable decision soon," Sharma said here.
Ringo And other low cost calling apps offer nearly 90 per cent cheaper calling rates than the telecom operators. But its domestic calling services were blocked the same week it began.

Ringo is learnt to be using Quadrant Televentures' network, a subsidiary of Videocon Telecom, saying it has permit for providing teleconference services and uses it along with other technology to connect calls.

Private operators have said Ringo’s service would hurt the mobile industry, already facing challenges in voice business as consumers switch to calling services provided by free apps like WhatsApp.
