Depressed over his unsuccessful attempt at the civil services examination, a young techie went berserk stabbing 20 people, including his parents and a policeman, with a sword in Karimnagar, Telangana.

The techie, Balwinder Singh, was shot dead by the police. The condition of four of the injured is stated to be serious.

Circle Inspector Vijayasaradhi opened fire and overpowered Singh before shifting him to a hospital. “He succumbed to bullet injuries in the hospital,” said DySP J Rama Rao.
Balwinder was employed with an IT firm in Bengaluru and was drawing a salary of Rs 18 lakh per annum. He was also being treated for depression, said Rao.

Before going on a stabbing spree, Singh had a heated argument with his parents. In a fit of rage, he picked up a sword and attacked them, causing serious injuries. He came out of the house screaming and first attacked a car, damaging the windshield. Later, he started chasing people while brandishing the sword on the streets of Lakshminagar.
On his way, he stopped an autorickshaw and attacked the driver, Sriman Narayana, causing injuries to his hands and later attacked a constable M M Ali.

Two other constables tried to stop him but in vain. When the situation appeared to be slipping out of control, Vijayasaradhi opened fire, took the youth into custody and shifted him to a hospital.
