We’ve only heard in movies and books that Santa’s elves get together a few months before Christmas and work day in and day out to make various gifts and decorations. But Bengaluru has its own elves who come together and start making their own versions of Christmas decorations.

The two friends, Reetu and Priya, run their own seasonal store called ‘Bubble Dew’ and make creative decorative items that one can hang on their trees, homes and give one’s surroundings a festive look.

Reetu says, “We both started this initiative last year because we wanted something to do in our free time. I used to work full-time till last year but now I’ve dedicated all my time to ‘Bubble Dew’. When these elves are not busy making Christmas decorations, they travel the City and make a birthday or anniversary party look grand with their decorations. The duo recently put up a stall at ‘Sunday Soul Sante’ to display their Christmas collections and say that they were almost sold out by the end of the day. Decorated with bright reds and whites, the stall attracted many to stop by and add these homemade decorations to their homes. They say they had about 100 items to make the rounds that day.

Most of the raw materials they work with are imported from around the globe.
Reetu says, “We have friends from UAE and other parts of India who bring the materials for us to work with. It’s not easy to find all of them here, and the quality is also better when it is from outside. Since we make everything ourselves, the materials need to be sturdy when working on.” Both Priya and Reetu have created interesting decorations like a snowman from socks and thermocol, wreath from creepers rolled in circles, decorations, candle sticks, bamboo frames, wooden spoon hangings and more. Bottle decorations are also one of their specialities.

Though it started off as a way to spend their time effectively, they’ve adopted this to be a part of their routine. Priya’s four-year-old son sometimes offers a helping hand to paint the flowers. His work becomes a masterpiece for them and a selling item
as well.

Reetu says, “My mother used to be interested in arts and crafts, and that’s how that got passed on to me. Since Priya wasn’t busy with anything else at the time, I asked her if she wanted to start something like that to which she immediately agreed. Though we haven’t decided what else we want to dive into in the coming year, this yearly get together to make the best time of a year a grand one is only going to get better.”
