Italian cuisine

Located in Malleswaram, this cafe is hardly two months old but it has become synonymous with a healthy meal. ‘Cafe Mamma Mia’ is a refreshing place to relax in, away from the hustle and bustle.

The menu has only vegetarian Italian dishes, nevertheless, it will not be a disappointment, even for the meat lovers out there.

Explaining the concept of the cafe, BS Bhat, the owner, says, “The idea behind the cafe is to add exotic and fresh vegetables in our menu and create some unique dishes. Every item in our menu has at least two types of vegetables. This way, we are trying to control the intake of calories and getting children accustomed to developing healthy dining habits.”

There is an open kitchen so one is assured of what is going into their food. The kitchen and the sitting area are clean and hygienic.

The menu has a wide range of items — from starters, soups, salads and wraps to burgers, pastas, pizzas, risottos and desserts. Almost all the items on the menu are prepared and served fresh.

To start your meal, try a bowl of ‘French onion soup’ or a ‘mushroom and potato chowder soup’. And while you are enjoying the hot and not-very- spicy soup, ask for a plate of ‘cottage cheese fritters’ or ‘veg chilli garlic nuggets’ as starters. Other quick bites include a ‘vegetarian taco’, ‘paneer wrap’, ‘pasta sandwich’ or a ‘maharaja bite’. They are filling and great if you are in a hurry.
However, if you want to spend time on a lavish meal, go for their thin crust pizzas — freshly baked in oven with a strong aroma of spices and fresh vegetables, they are delicious. ‘Exotic veggie’, ‘Spanish salsa’, ‘tandoori paneer’ and the classic margarita are some of the must-tries.

All pasta lovers can go for the ‘pasta cheesy creamy sauce’, ‘lasagna’ or the pasta with peppers, peas, and basilico sauce. If you still have some space left in your tummy, fill it with the ‘mixed veggie risotto’ or ‘basil butter rice’.

Even as the butter rice melts in your mouth, you won’t regret your order. After a wholesome meal, turn to the dessert page and without a second thought ask for a ‘hot mud pie’, ‘tiramisu’ or a ‘pannacotta with berry sauce’ and your sweet tooth will thank you for the treat.

The crowd coming in is mostly a mixed one. As for the music, the playlist has a mix of classic and contemporary Hindi and English tracks.
