SRA should be allowed to play dominant role: AITAF

Last Updated 26 December 2015, 17:46 IST

The All India Tax Advocates Forum (AITAF) has urged the Centre to ensure that the State Revenue Authorities (SRA) are allowed to play dominant role for effective and efficient administration of the new tax regime of the GST.

Apart from revenue consideration, the issue of administrative control assumes greater importance in the new tax regime.

“Since SRAs, compared to Central Revenue Authority (CRA), have greater penetration, spread and expertise in administrating a diverse tax administration such as Value Added Tax ( VAT) and Central Sales Tax ( CST), the SRAs should play the major role in administration of the new tax regime of GST”, the AITAF president M K Gandhi said in a statement here.

As the state commercial tax departments have long experience in handling various tax- related issues, including inter state taxation, the administration of the new tax regime of GST should be handed over the SRAs, he said.
