Elderly woman crushed by truck

An elderly woman walking home was killed on the spot when a truck transporting LPG cylinders crushed her under its wheels at Bhattarahalli, KR Puram, in eastern Bengaluru early on Monday morning, the police said. Laxmi Bai, a resident of Gandhinagar, is the deceased.

The accident occurred around 5.50 am.

The driver could not control the truck as he is said to have spotted the victim at the last minute. She suffered grievous injuries and was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The KR Puram traffic police said the victim had an identity card which helped them identify her but they were yet to trace her family. The driver abandoned the truck and fled the spot.

The police have booked him for causing death by negligence under section 304(A) of the IPC and are searching for him.
