Body discovered
Around 2.30 pm, a few locals found a body floating in the pit and informed the police, who rushed to the spot along with the Fire and Emergency Service personnel.

The body was recovered and its identity was established with the help of the locals.

The members of Eraiah’s family were informed and the body shifted for post-mortem, said the police.

A senior police officer said, “It is suspected that Eraiah was inebriated and might have slipped into the quarry pit and drowned. There are also chances of him having committed suicide. We are waiting for  post -mortem report to ascertain if he was drunk or not when the incident took place. The family members told the police that he used to fight frequently with them over petty issues and he was a chronic drinker.”

A case of unnatural death has been registered with the police.
