Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa and former legislator Beluru Gopalakrishna exchanged heated words at the inauguration of a co-operative bank building in Shivamogga on Sunday.

Gopalakrishna had arrived to take part in the function for inaugurating the building of Brahmashri Narayanaguru Credit Co-operative Society and the Speaker was also scheduled to take part in the event.

As soon as Kagodu Thimmappa arrived, the organisers took him to the venue for inaugurating the building by cutting the tape. Gopalakrishna took objection saying that he had been waiting for more than an hour and he too would have come to the venue if he was informed.

The Speaker, who was irritated, is said to have retorted to Gopalakrishna in foul language. The former MLA too gave it back and the two exchanged heated words, in singular. Rajya Sabha member Ayanuru Manjunath and some others intervened and pacified the duo. Later, in his speech at the function, Thimmappa apologised to Gopalakrishna.
