New Year's non-materialistic gifts

Last Updated 04 January 2016, 04:36 IST

Many times it so happens that we’d have gone about chalking grandiose plans of getting gorgeous gifts to some good folks in our life. But suddenly, we discover a slight depletion in home coffers at that particular phase, which in turn torpedoes all our plans of gifting. Well, interestingly, the act of gifting, that has the potent power to convey plethora of feelings/ emotions, needn’t have to be always material-centric.

Yes, you can still warm the cockles of someone’s heart by non-materialistic gifts, which in actuality, can phenomenally hike up the happiness quotient in the gift recipient’s heart. For instance, say, you’d have previously thought of presenting a prepossessing pair of gold earrings to your grandma. Now, when you find yourself strapped for cash, instead of earrings, you can offer her the ‘gift of your precious time’ by chauffeuring her around to the places of her choice.

This gift of love, affection and attachment could proffer more joy than what materialistic stuff could provide. Likewise, you can give the ‘gift of your efforts’ to your parents by, say, whipping up a scrumptious delicacy, or even penning down couple of handwritten lines, rhapsodising on their virtues, to make them feel how singularly important and super special they have always been.

Then there is that ‘gift of physical help’, which you can offer to your friends/ colleagues, by trying to mitigate their work strain through your helping gestures. Like, say, by facilitating to complete a work project on time, or even by collecting veggies/ groceries for them, and dropping these later at their places. Of course, you can give the ‘gift of emotional succour’ too, just by listening to the woes and throes of distressed souls, which could be, besides your friends/relatives, those residing at orphanages or old-age homes.

Next, you can grant the ‘gift of encouragement’ to many around you, by appreciating their work, talents/skills, and such other good qualities, through your mind-elevating phrases. Incidentally, even small gestures like a soft pat on the shoulder, radiant smiles and gentle hugs too can be great gifts, as they exponentially escalate one’s spirits, especially in the case of children.

Now, in case you are even more magnanimous, you can bestow that lovely ‘gift of forgiveness’, over those loathed beings in your life, who’d have lacerated your feelings at sometime! By doing this, you yourself would receive back the gift of ‘reservoir of mental bliss’! This apart, you can also gift yourself by setting off on a stress-busting short holiday jaunt, soaking in moments of surplus peace amidst some serene surroundings!
Not to miss, you yourself can be a rarest of rare gift to the mankind, by developing that amiable, amicable and endearing persona. Indeed, blessed are such kind-hearted and compassionate folks, who eternally keep radiating that unmitigated happiness all around them. Well, even more blessed are those, who are around these divine-natured humans!
