JOIN USEncounter specialist, Sub-Inspector Daya Nayak, who was suspended last year, has been reinstated by the Maharashtra Police.
Director General of Police Praveen Dixit’s office has confirmed the reinstatement of Nayak who was suspended in July 2015, after he failed to report to Nagpur where he had been transferred in 2014.
The suspension order, which was issued in July last year, came from the then Maharashtra DGP Sanjeev Dayal.
The Karnakata-born cop has been part of Crime Branch (CB-CID) and Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) teams and had eliminated 83 criminals which includes members of the Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan gangs and terrorists of Lashkar-e-Toiba.
The dashing six-footer dare-devil policeman of the 1995-batch of officers had been featured in several Bollywood movies and written about in international magazines.
Nayak, who was transferred to Nagpur, around a year ago, refused to take up the assignment.
A few years ago, he was investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
He had been suspended from service in January 2006 and after he was arrested in a case of disproportionate assets.
In October 2009, the then DGP S S Virk had denied permission to prosecute Nayak in the case with a remark that there were insufficient grounds and cleared him of all charges. Later, his file was sent to the ACB.
This had paved a way for his reinstatement in the force. In January 2012, he was reinstated and was posted with the Local Arms branch, but later to one of the regional control rooms. In January 2014, he was transferred to Nagpur.
