Stop hosting Kambala, AWBI urges State govt

 The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has urged the State government to take all the necessary steps to stop hosting Jallikattu and similar sports such as Kambala races, a popular game in Dakshina Kannada district.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary of the State, S Vinod Kumar, assistant secretary of the AWBI, on Thursday said that the State should comply with the recent order issued by the Supreme Court on Jallikattu.

AWBI has issued this letter in the wake of Supreme Court staying the notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, which allows Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu.

The copies of the letter were also sent to other officials including director general of police, the director of animal husbandry and veterinary services, deputy commissioners, superintendent of police of Mangaluru and Udupi. The copies were also marked to the assistant director of the department of animal husbandry and veterinary services in Mangaluru and Udupi.
