Member of Parliament from Chamarajanagar R Dhruvanarayana submitted a memorandum to the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi on Wednesday, seeking release of funds for the new rail route between Bengaluru and Chamarajanagar.
The Centre had approved Rs 1,382.78 crore for the Chamarajanagar-Kollegal-Malavalli-Kanakapura-Bengaluru route. But, only Rs 10 crore has been released so far. Dhruvanarayana has sought the release of remaining funds for the execution of the project.
The memorandum has also sought extension of the Mysuru-Shivamogga and Mysuru-Hubballi-Dharwad train up to Chamarajanagar.
Dhruvanarayana explained that long-distance trains halt for hours together at Mysuru city railway station for cleaning of coaches and other maintenance works. If a coach maintenance unit is set up at Chamarajanagar, the long-distance trains can be extended up to Chamarajanagar, which will also benefit the passengers of the region, he has said.
