In another sensational disclosure, actress-turned-politician Hema Malini seems to have violated the provisions of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) by destroying mangroves on the land allotted to Natyavihar Kala Kendra Charity Trust, previously. This was revealed when Mumbai-based activist Anil Galgali sought replies under Right to Information Act (RTI).

Prior to the land allotted currently at  Ambivili village in Andheri taluka, Hema Malini was allotted another plot at village Versova, bearing survey no 161, adjoining the Versova Creek, being plot no 1 measuring 1741.89 Sq mts for which the possession was handed out on 4 April 1997.

The academy had made a payment of Rs 10 lakhs for the same. But Hema Malini had showed an area of 50,000 sq mts in its project report submitted on 6  April 1994. Similarly, it had shown a balance of Rs 22.50 lakhs in its bank account with the Santa Cruz branch of Samta Sahkari Bank Ltd. Furthermore it had projected an project cost of Rs 3.70  crores. The Mumbai suburban collector had served an notice to Hema Malini on 28 August 1998.

Show cause notice
“It had show caused the trust as to why should the letter of intent issued for the allotment of land not be canceled for violating the norms of the  CRZ. The show cause notice contained three issues namely: there was a vast difference in the area of land allotted and the area of land mentioned in the project report, the trust submit a project report signed by an architect showing availability of 25% of funds projected in the project report, and also show how it intended to raise the balance 75% required for the project. The major issue raised in the notice was the destruction of the mangroves adjoining the land. The notice also specified that the CRZ rules not be violated,” Galgali said in a press statement.
