Former Noida Authority chief engineer Yadav Singh, who had been suspended following charges of amassing huge wealth and committing financial irregularities, was arrested by the CBI on Wednesday.

According to sources, Yadav Singh was arrested from Ghaziabad and taken to Delhi by the investigating agency for further questioning. CBI was probing the disproportionate-assets case against Yadav Singh on the direction of the Allahabad High Court.

Sources here said Yadav Singh could be produced in the court on Thursday.
The suspended chief engineer had allegedly amassed wealth over Rs 1,000 crore through shady deals and shell companies and had also allegedly ‘divorced’ his wife to save his ‘ill-gotten wealth’.

The income-tax raids at Yadav Singh’s Noida house as well as at the residences of his business partners and others had reportedly unearthed unaccounted cash, jewellery and other assets worth thousands of crores.

Yadav Singh, who had been appointed chief engineer of Noida Authority during Mayawati’s stint in 2007, was suspended when the Samajwadi Party (SP) formed the government in 2012. But he was later not only reinstated but was again made chief engineer at the same place.

Social activist Nutan Thakur welcomed Yadav Singh’s arrest and said she hoped that those, who colluded with him would also be brought to the book.
