Bengaluru again shows its love for books

Bengaluru is among the top cities in the country, as far as love for reading goes. According to the latest Amazon.in Annual Reading Trends Report, the City figures in the bracket for the third consecutive year.

The City ranked second in the reading trend which was determined by compiling sales data of all physical books sold during 2015. Delhi-NCR topped the charts while Mumbai stood third. The fourth and fifth places were bagged by Hyderabad and Chennai, respectively.

Amish Tripathi’s Scion of Ikshvaku was the most sold book in the City, while popular bestseller Half Girlfriend by Chetan Bhagat ranked third, behind the Manorama Year Book 2015, which ranked second.

Who will Cry When You Die?, Word Power Made Easy and The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari made up the top six sellers in the City.

The top five Kannada bestsellers of 2015 in India were The Secret, Rapidex English for Kannada Speakers, The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari, Hindi-Kannada Learning Course and Yaana. The top five new releases of 2015 across India were Scion of Ikshvaku, Making India Awesome: New Essays and Columns, World’s Best Boyfriend, You’re Trending in My Dreams and Mrs Funnybones.

The sale of the top book was over three times the sale of the most sold book last year, indicating a healthy growth of readers in the City. Fiction ranked as the top genre of the year in the City. Amish Tripathi’s The Immortals of Meluha, Preeti Shenoy’s Life is What You Make it, Chetan Bhagat’s Half Girlfriend and the exam preparation book Word Power Made Easy featured for the second year among the top 10 books purchased in the City.
