Three men were arrested for manhandling a police sub-inspector (SI), after he tried to stop one of them from jumping the traffic signal while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s convoy was moving towards the HAL Airport.

The incident took place near Kamaraj Road and Cubbon Road junction on Friday morning. According to the police, the arrested are Anand, 35, a Canara Bank employee, Sarvana Kumar, an employee with DTDC company, and Elwin, a postgraduate student in a private college. Sub-inspector Krishnamurthy attached to the Shivajinagar traffic police station was manhandled by the trio while performing his duty.

Around 8 am, the traffic policemen stopped the vehicles for a couple of minutes at Kamaraj Road and Cubbon Road junction as the chief minister's convoy was passing. Anand, who was made to wait for long at the traffic signal, lost his cool and tried to jump the signal. The traffic cops stopped him and took him aside, said the police.

At this juncture, Kumar and Elwin came to the rescue of Anand and the trio got into an argument with the sub-inspector. They also manhandled Krishnamurthy. The other traffic constables, who witnessed the scene, alerted the Commercial Street police who rushed to the spot and arrested the trio. A case has been registered in Commercial Street police station.
