Arunachal guv cancels Congress govt appointments, promotions

Arunachal Pradesh Governor J P Rajkhowa on Thursday cancelled all appointments and promotion orders issued by the previous Congress regime which were made on “out of turn” basis and were not consonant to the interse seniority policy.

The governor also sacked Arunachal Pradesh State Rubber Board Chairman (APSRB) Likha Maj with immediate effect. “The governor is pleased to withdraw his pleasure with respect to appointment of Maj as APSRB chairman with immediate effect,” a statement from Trade and Commerce Commissioner in capital Itanagar stated.  “It has been decided that henceforth, no officiating posting or promotion outside the merit or inter-se seniority list would be allowed to any junior level officer by bypassing a senior officer in any department, organisation or office,” the governor’s office stated.

“This was necessitated in view of numerous complaints received from civil societies, NGOs, as well as government officials and other aggrieved officers alleging such kind of out of turn promotions in an irregular, illegal and unjustifiable manner,” the statement further added.

The governor had earlier terminated the services of the Advocate General and Additional Advocate General.

Even as the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court earlier this week questioned Rajkhowa’s actions, the governor had remained steadfast over his claims of making the administration free of corruption.
