Passersby click photos as accident victim lies on road

A group of people, who saw a youth fatally injured in a road accident under Chikkajala traffic police on Saturday, didn’t bother to rush the victim to a hospital or inform the police. Instead, they preferred taking photos and videos on their mobile phones.   

According to the police, Kiriti (30), a software engineer in a private company at JP Nagar and a resident of BTM Layout, was riding towards Devanahalli on Friday night.

 He lost control of the bike and crashed into parapet of Meenukunte – Hosuru bridge near Yelahanka. He sustained grievous injuries and was lying in a pool of blood, said the police.

“Instead of informing the police, the onlookers preferred taking victim’s photos and videos on their mobile phone. After a while, two youths alerted the police. They also tried to flag down a vehicle to shift him to a hospital, but none stopped by. The police shifted the victim to a hospital. The doctors said the victim is out of danger. It is learnt that it was the rash and negligent riding which resulted in the accident.

 Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet,” said a senior police officer. A few eyewitnesses informed us that the victim, who was struggling for life was left unattended for more than 20 minutes, he added.
