Mentally unstable man rescued from manhole

A 40-year-old mentally unstable man accidentally fell into a manhole near Thimmenehalli near Agrahara Dasarahalli under Magadi Road police station limits on Saturday.

According to police, Ganesh Pandey, a native of Uttar Pradesh had come to the City a few years ago in search of a job. He fell ill and became mentally unstable and was living the life of a vagabond.

On Saturday afternoon, Pandey was walking near Thimmenahalli and accidentally fell into a 10-feet deep manhole. 

Passersby noticed him struggling to climb back and informed the police. Police alerted the fire department, who rushed to the spot and rescued Pandey, said the police.

A fire official said, “He is mentally unstable and we have no idea how he fell in.
 Fortunately, he was not injured. He has been handed over to the Magadi Road police.” The manhole was left partially open since it was being cleaned. The incident occurred when the cleaning staff had gone for lunch.

Police said Pandey was taken to Beggars Colony. His doesn’t speak clearly and is seen roaming around in Vijayanagar and surrounding areas.
