A 22-year-old man was killed on the spot and his friend sustained injuries when a BMTC bus jumped over the median and rammed their motorcycle on Nayandahalli flyover on Tuesday morning. Two students, who were travelling in the bus, also suffered from minor injuries.

The incident took place when the youths were returning home after wishing Kannada actor Darshan on his birthday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Madhu Kumar, resident of Thanisandra and a private company employee. His friend Sudhanshu, 20, a resident of NR Colony, a PUC student, escaped with minor injuries.

Around 10.45 am, a BMTC bus (route number 234) was going towards Ullala Upanagar from Kempegowda bus stand. As it reached Nayandahalli flyover, the driver of the bus tried to overtake a KSRTC bus. But the KSRTC bus driver did not give him space.

The BMTC bus driver decided to overtake the KSRTC bus from the right side, but the KSRTC bus driver steered the vehicle to the right side, said the police.

The BMTC bus driver lost control over the vehicle, as he was at top speed and jumped over the median and rammed into Kumar, who was coming on his bike from the opposite direction. Kumar came under the wheels of the bus while Sudhanshu, the pillion rider, escaped with minor injuries, added the police.

Sabeena, 24, and Shakuntala, 18, who were travelling in the bus also suffered from minor injuries, the police said.

“The BMTC bus driver was arrested and the bus was seized, while the details of the KSRTC bus has been obtained and the driver will be arrested at the earliest. It is a case of rash and negligent driving of the both the bus drivers,” said a senior police officer.
