BBMP to present Rs 7000 cr, this year

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is likely to table a budget of Rs 7,000 crore for the year 2016-17.

Having restrained itself to a realistic budget for two years in the past, this year, the Finance department has moved a draft budget of about Rs 7,000 crore, said sources in the BBMP. The committee will hold a discussion in this regard with all departments on February 22.

The Taxation and Finance Committee chairperson M Shivaraju said that efforts are being made to present a realistic budget. The Palike is anticipating sufficient grants from the State government for its major projects and an increase in the allocation of funds under the Nagarotthana scheme. He added that a separate budgetary allocation for pending bills may not be possible. The only mechanism is to generate resources. 

The Palike budget will be tabled only after the State government presents its budget.
