Speeding car mows down toddler

A two-year-old toddler was mowed down by a speeding car in Vijayanagar traffic police limits on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Anitha Harsha. The accident took place when the toddler had gone with her grandmother to a bakery.

Anitha is the daughter of Harsha and Veeramma, both from Tamil Nadu, who work as labourers. They stay at a slum at Corporation Colony. The accident occurred as Karthik, the driver of the car did not notice the girl and mowed her down. Though the child was rushed to the nearby hospital immediately, the doctors declared her dead on arrival. The police arrested Karthik and seized the car.

In another case, Karna (15), a resident of Laggere was killed on the spot after a four-wheeler rammed his bike on Nagarbhavi Ring Road. Karan had taken the bike from his house without informing his parents. A four-wheeler hit the bike as result of which Karan was tossed in the air, fell down and suffered severe injuries, said the police.

A few local residents found a notebook in his bag and called up a number mentioned in one of the pages to establish his identity. The driver of the four-wheeler did not stop the vehicle. A search has been launched to trace the vehicle, the police said.
