Bengaluru FC were made to pay dearly for their missed chances as they went down 0-2 to South United in their BDFA Super Division fixture at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, BFC are placed second on the table with 14 points from 10 games while MEG & Centre, who too have 14 points from seven matches, are third on goal difference. United, also with 14 points from seven games, are fourth.

An own goal from BFC defender Manju in the first half and a strike from Santhosh in the second decided the outcome in the second game of the day. MEG defeated Rail Wheel Factory 4-1 in the earlier match.

The BFC-South United game began at a frenetic pace and United were ahead early, thanks to the own goal by Manju in the seventh minute. Manju headed in a cross from United winger Santhosh in his attempt to pass the ball back to his onrushing goalkeeper Calvin.

United could have doubled their advantage in the 16th minute when midfielder Magesh laid a delightful pass in the path of winger Senthil whose curling effort from the edge of the box bounced off the bar.

BFC had a chance of their own in the 33rd minute when Nishu’s header went straight to the hands of the alert United goalkeeper Kabir.

Three minutes later, midfielder Tony’s low shot was brilliantly tipped away by Calvin.
BFC came out determined in the second period and almost found an equaliser in the 60th minute when Nadrra, after collecting a good pass from Nishu, struck his shot straight at Kabir, who palmed it away.

In the 83rd minute, Senthil dribbled past couple of BFC defenders and sent in a cross from the right flank for Santhosh, who slotted home.

BFC then missed a glorious chance when Pavan placed the ball wide after being one-on-one with the United goalkeeper Kabir in the 85th minute. That was it for BFC, who then lost rhythm and gave away possession needlessly to the opposition.

Results: Super Division: South United: 2 (Manju 7th own goal, Santhosh 83rd); MEG: 4 (Christopher 31st, Lijin 40th, 70th, Ramu 51st) bt RWF: 1 (Prakash 55th).
