On the highway to a fit self

My perfect weekend
Last Updated 03 March 2016, 18:39 IST

My weekends are usually not planned. I try to do multiple things. In fact, watching movies and spending time with friends take up most of my weekend. Since I don’t stay with my family in Mumbai, friends are all I have.

Apart from this, I like travelling. I travel to Goa most of the time as it is a perfect weekend getaway for me. In fact, last month I went to Goa twice. I have a peculiar love for beaches which probably defines my obsession for Goa. I am an impulsive traveller, so I just decide and I am there. I don’t like packing my bags and planning on a trip, so most of the time, my travels are a spontaneous thing.

I make sure to visit my family, especially during weekends, for three to four days when I am not working. Being a family oriented person, I get really emotional and start missing them once I have spent a lot of time alone. Either they come to Mumbai or I am in Gwalior (my hometown). Either ways, I try to spend enough time with them.

Though workouts and fitness training is an everyday thing for me, I make sure not to avoid it during the weekends too. I love practising martial arts and swimming and believe in functional trainings. Since childhood, I have been into somersaults and handstands, so keeping myself fit has been in me since I was a kid.

When it comes to sports, I play football a lot. Every Sunday is football day; I play it with my friends. In a way, it is a day to spend time with them. Table tennis is also something I enjoy a lot apart from playstation.  Apart from that, I love getting massages, so that is also something I take time out for during the weekends.

Food plays the biggest role in my life during the weekend. I am a foodie, so Friday and Saturday become the perfect time to have good food at my favourite restaurants. Basically those are like the cheat days. I am a die-hard fan of Indian cuisine and I love relishing ‘aloo ke parathe’ and ‘lassi’, apart from which cold coffee is something I don’t mind sipping on.

I also have a soft corner for cooking, thanks to my days in a paying guest accommodation that taught me to cook almost everything. I can now cook Indian food and bake pizzas and cakes. I used to cook food and carry my lunch wherever I used to go for auditions. Seems like it has turned out to be a blessing.

Moreover, I make sure that I watch a movie everyday. During the weekends (especially Saturdays), one can find me in a theatre watching a movie — that is one activity that is a sure thing in my to-do-list. Besides movies, I watch ‘Seinfeld’. It is one of the TV series’ I can’t give up on.

I have pets in my hometown. We had a German Shepherd earlier and currently, we have a pug and I named him Sher Singh. In fact, I’ve always had pets around me. I love them and going back home to them is a delight.

Going for long drives and listening to music while driving is something that happens by default. One of the best times is when it rains in Mumbai. The beauty adds charm to the long drives and makes it a perfect escape before I start yet another week.
