Spirited CIL fight back to earn draw

Last Updated 09 March 2016, 18:40 IST

A spirited fightback from CIL saw them rally to a 1-1 draw against a dull ASC in their BDFA Super Division League fixture at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Wednesday.

ASC midfielder Bobichand struck the opener in the first half while a strike from CIL striker RC Prakash in the second brought the scores level. Earlier, Rail Wheel Factory edged Income Tax 1-0.

ASC with 13 points remained in the fifth spot from nine games while CIL are placed ninth and have eight points from nine matches. Ozone FC top the table with 22 points from eight games.

The ASC-CIL match started in a drab manner as both the teams lacked rythm in their passing. In the very second minute, ASC winger Deepak squandered the first real chance of the game as he curled his effort wide off the far post from the edge of the box.

CIL had a chance of their own the 14th minute when midfielder Vignesh Srinivas slammed a free-kick horribly over the bar from outside the box.

In the 16th minute, Bobichand dribbled past the clueless CIL defence and blasted a good shot from edge of the box to open the scoring for ASC.

ASC could have doubled their lead in the 34th minute but striker Saroj Rai headed the ball wide after receiving a good cross from winger Deepak.

CIL were a different side in the second period as they pushed for an equaliser right from the whistle. In the 55th minute, Prakash made a darting on the left and hammered in an excellent shot in the top corner of the net, from inside the box.

The remaining minutes saw both the teams fighting for possession in the midfield without any intent to find the winner.

Results: ASC: 1 (Bobichand 13th) drew with CIL: 1 (RC Prakash); RWF: 1 (Kiran 17th own goal) bt Income Tax: 0.
