<p> <br />Nearly 200 students belonging to the PhD Research Scholars Union demonstrated against the State government’s decision for over two hours on the campus. <br /><br />Ravikumar Baagi, a member of the union who participated in the protest said that the move was an attempt to politicise food habits of people by the Government. “Eating beef is a matter of personal preference and not something that is of public interest. Ours is a diverse nation with a variety of food habits and the Government has no role in dictating what people should eat,” he said. <br /><br />Students also dared the Government to ban all meat and not specifically beef. “Vegetarians will say that all meat is against their sentiments. Non-vegetarians will also say that vegetarianism is against their belief,” Baagi questioned.<br /><br />The research scholars also contended that he total ban was simply an attempt to rake up an unnecessary controversy by the State government.</p>
