<div>A 23-year-old homemaker is suspected to have committed suicide because of alleged dowry harassment. The incident occurred in Okalipuram, 1st main road, west Bengaluru, on Sunday, the police said. <br /><br />Hemalatha, the deceased, ate dinner with other members of her family, went into her bedroom and then hanged herself from a ceiling fan, the police said. Her husband, Chandrashekhar, who is a teacher at Indus International School, Sarjapur, went into the bedroom sometime later and found out about the suicide. <br /><br />The couple were married for two-and-a-half years. They stayed on the fourth floor while other members of their family stayed on the third floor. <br /><br />The jurisdictional Srirampuram police said they didn’t find any suicide note. Hemalatha’s father, Krishnappa, accused Chandrashekhar and his family of “harassing” his daughter and driving her to suicide. <br /><br />The police have arrested Chandrashekhar under IPC Sections 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 304 B (dowry death).<br /><br />The other case <br />In another suicide related to suspected dowry harassment, a 31-year-old married woman hanged herself at her home at SVM Layout, Mathikere, north Bengaluru. <br /><br />Manjula, 31, wife of Surendra, a mathematics teacher at an engineering college, is suspected to have taken the extreme step after being harassed by her in-laws, the police said. Manjula married Surendra two-and-a-half years ago and bore him a child. <br /><br />On Sunday, around 8 pm, Surendra and his parents went out, leaving Manjula alone at home. Sometime later, Surendra’s brother Mohan came home and knocked on the door but there was no response. <br /><br />He then called up Manjula’s parents to find out whether she was visiting them. The parents said they hadn’t seen her. <br /><br />Mohan, out of suspicion, peeped through the window and was shocked to find Manjula hanging. <br /><br />The jurisdictional Yeshwantpur police have booked Surendra and his parents for abetting in suicide. <br /></div>
