<p>A 24-year-old private college lecturer, riding pillion on a two-wheeler, was killed after a city bus ran over her near Nanthoor on Wednesday morning.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The deceased has been identified as Joyline Monis, a Commerce lecturer at St Agnes College and daughter of John Monis, editor of a Konkani monthly magazine. <br /><br />According to police, Joyline’s younger sister, a second-year BCom student at St Aloysius College, was riding the two-wheeler when the mishap occurred.<br /><br />One-way<br />It may be mentioned here that the stretch between Nanthoor and Kadri was made one-way some time ago as the stretch is being concretised. A few two-wheeler and four-wheeler users, however, continue plying the narrow stretch.<br /><br />As the sisters reached Chefs Restaurant, which is located between Kadri and Nanthoor, a city bus plying towards Nanthoor brushed the two-wheeler, throwing both the sisters on the road.<br /><br />The rear tyre of the bus ran over Joyline, killing her on the spot. Joyline’s sister Jacqueline escaped unhurt. The bus driver fled the spot immediately after the accident. <br /><br />A large number of students and nuns from the college gathered in front of the mortuary soon after they heard the news. A case has been registered. <br /></p>
