It’s always a heartening sight to see sportsmen from one discipline rooting for fellow players from a different discipline. We have seen tennis star Sania Mirza supporting the Indian cricket team from the stands. And on Wednesday at the Chinnaswamy stadium, it was practitioners of the National Game rooting for India’s most popular sport.

The Indian men’s hockey team members came in full numbers to cheer the Men in Blue who took on Bangladesh in their Super 10 game. Seated in the terrace pavilion, coach Roelant Oltmans and skipper Sardar Singh led the hockey brigade, all clad in red Ts.

Support for KohliIt was a no brainer that Virat Kohli would receive the biggest cheer when the Indian players’ were flashed on the giant screen in batting order. He is not only the best batsman in the side but he is the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore as well.

It’s also interesting to see how the crowd reacts to each name and it perhaps is the best yardstick to judge the popularity of a cricketer. While the announcement of names of Kohli and MS Dhoni threatened to being the roof down, there was no more than a whimper when some junior cricketers’ names were flashed on the big screen. The giant screen operators also goofed up by failing to mention the name of Yuvraj Singh, who too would have attracted huge roar.
