Three dead in serial mishap in city

Three people, including a couple, died in a mishap that occurred near the ring road on Mysuru-KRS road on Tuesday. While the couple were killed on the spot, the injured eight-year-old boy succumbed late in the night.

Vishakanta (47) and his wife Hemavathi (44) from Belagola, Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district, and Prajwal, son of Sanjeev, Mahadevi Colony, Duddagere, T Narsipur taluk, in Mysuru district, are the deceased persons.

According to V V Puram traffic police, a speeding lorry rammed a car and several two-wheelers near Belavatha on Tuesday night. Following the mishap, the couple, who were returning to their native village from a relative’s place at Gandhinagar in Mysuru in a car, were crushed to death, while their two grandchildren survived with injuries.

Shivanna, who was returning home at Chikkahalli, Yelwal hobli in Mysuru taluk along with his grandson Prajwal on a two-wheeler, was hit by the same lorry. Prajwal who had suffered severe injuries was admitted to a private hospital, where he breathed his last late in the night.

Cause
Police said, the mishap occurred due to the rash and negligent driving of the lorry driver, who hit the car that was crushed between another lorry in the front, in his attempt to overtake another vehicle. The leg of one of the children (grandchildren of coupled killed) in the backseat was stuck between the door and frame. An alert passerby, drove the lorry that had hit the car in reverse direction and removed the injured boy from the car. The driver of the lorry had fled the scene. A case has been registered.
