'Jola' items from North Karnataka

North Karnataka is known for its varied and traditional food. Corn and wheat dominate the food habit of the region and rotti is the indispensable part of the daily diet.

    An eatery called Jolada Siri near Navarang Circle, Rajajinagar simulates the food contents of Northern Karnataka region and offers typical Uttara Karnataka stuff.
As the name Jolada Siri suggests, the main ingredient used in the eatery is Jola (corn). Their menu boasts of all kinds of items made out of corn and are served from breakfast to dinner. Apart from Jolada Rotti, the food court provides Jolada Uppittu, which is prepared by mixing the pieces of rotti, upma masala and Jolada muttige. The concept of Jolada Muttige is taken from ‘burgers’. In Muttige, hot and spicy masala is put between two rottis and it tastes excellent when eaten with tomato sauce.

The eatery is owned by Timmanna Hosur, who has been serving the food lovers of the City for more than twelve years.
    “Everyone wants to taste the food of one’s native place. In Rajajinagar, there are many people from North Karnataka. So I thought of starting this exclusive eatery. We prepare all the items of the region and are trying to popularise the concept among Bangalore crowd,” says Timmanna.

During lunch time, the eatery serves two types of  ‘thalis’, normal and special. Normal thali consists of rotti, two kinds of palya, chutney, salad, rice, sambhar, curd and pickle and it is priced at Rs 35. The special thali also comes with sweets.

In the evening, traditional chaats like Menasinakai Bajji, Onion Pakoda, Gir Mittu, Khara Mandakki, Paddu, Talippittu and Avalakki dominate the menu. “I had never tasted North Karnataka food until I stepped into Jolada Siri, three months back.
   Now Rotti Oota has become my favourite food. My father also likes Jolada Bani and Jolada ambli which are healthy and energetic,” says Upendra Bhadti, a regular at the eatery.

The sweets sold are Belgaum Kunda, Antinunde, Karadantu, Shenga Holige,
Ellina Holige and Mandagi which are fresh and
reasonably priced.
