Summer is here and people are revamping their closet with the season’sbest. This season is about feeling comfortable in one’s second skin without compromising on the trends. Apart from wearing shorts, skirts, maxi slit dresses and tube tops, one can also look forward to shoulder cutout tops and dresses, which fashionistas are seen gracefully embracing.

Designers Aditi and Manjari Bhimrajka from ‘Melis’, says, “Since off-shoulder outfits are in, we have many new and innovative patterns coming in along with it. Now, it’s not just an off-shoulder attire, one can also experiment with cut-outs. One side off-shoulder outfits will also be hitting the runways soon. These patterns are currently gaining attention.”

The popularity of this style is such that it suits both Indian and Western dressing. Some of the trending colours are rose quartz and emerald green. Cut-out shoulders ensemble can be worn at casual and formal spaces. Breaking the misconception of cut-outs being a casual attire, Aditi says, “People think that this can only be fit for a casual wear, but that is not true. As a formal wear, one can look for a top with embellishment and pair it with a skinny-fit jeans, making one ready for a formal look.”

Nandini Swaminathan, a fashion blogger, says, “There is something elegant about a cut-out shoulder outfit, be it a dress or top that almost anyone can carry off well. With temperature soaring, the cut-out shoulder is great for those who want to wear something light and breezy without going for a sleeveless or spaghetti version of a shirt or dress.”

The trending materials or silhouette she says include button-down shirts with cut-out shoulders, either with mutton-leg sleeves or ruffled short sleeves.

On how one can complete the look, she says, “Pair a cut-out shoulder dress with a sling bag, a pair of mule heels or tie-up sandals and layers of minimalistic necklaces. For a night look, you can try a classy choker and a statement clutch with stilettos.” Suggesting the outfit as an ideal attire for beach parties, designer Hirika Jagani says, “These outfits are ideal for beach parties and can also be sported as evening gowns. While at a beach, slip into a mid-length skirt or shorts, a shoulder cut-out top, gladiator flats, sunglasses and go for a nude makeup — and one is set to beat the beach heat.

However, if one is looking for a evening look, go for darker hues for the dress or the top like maroon and dark green.”

It is all about shredding off the shoulders from an attire. “They look great with high- waist trousers or flared, printed skirts. It gives out a chic, quirky and trendy look to anyone who wears it. Basically, one looks elegant and skinny with off-shoulder tops and dresses, so people with a heavier body type can easily carry this outfit. However, for those who are skinny can opt for cut-out shoulder dresses and tops to enhance their body look.”
