Mahadevapete road will finally be widened.

The time has come, after much wait. Citizens who had encroached upon the land of the road to construct buildings without permit beside the road have voluntarily vacated their buildings, letting the authorities concerned begin with the work of widening the road.

Their move follows a word from the Madikeri City Municipal Council which had announced that the widening work on the road will commence in the month of April and had asked the building owners to vacate the buildings of their own accord.

55 houses

Ravi Kumar, City Municipality assistant executive engineer, had declared, “About 55 houses have been constructed partially by encroaching upon the land. They need to be vacated. Notices have been served to building owners. If they fail to vacate themselves, we will vacate the buildings.”

“The City Municipality had been planning to widen the road from Chowki to AV School for the last one decade. As the residents approached the court, however, the project was delayed. The hearing of the court on the writ petition, demanding a stay for widening the road, will come for hearing on April 5. Looking at the court order, the City Municipality will go ahead,” Ravi Kumar added.
