Dakshina Kannada District Aided Kannada Medium School Managements’ Association has urged the state government not to close aided Kannada medium schools’, in which the strength of students is less than 25.

Addressing mediapersons, association secretary M Jayananda Devadiga said the government is neglecting Kannada medium schools. The aided Kannada medium schools are not given permission to recruit teaching and non-teaching staff. Also, no funds are being given for the school maintenance, he said.

The government has put a restriction that the recognition of the schools with less than 25 students, in any class of high schools, will be cancelled. Kannada medium schools have no students  due to various reasons. The government paving way to commercialisation of education through English medium is one of the reasons, Devadiga added.
He said some officials at the Education Department have been exerting  pressure on the headmasters that if there are less than 25 students in Class 9, it should not be continued to Class 10.

Devadiga urged the government  not to impose such restrictions and take measures to support Kannada medium schools that facilitate less privileged students to continue studies.
