The BJP suspended its Uttar Pradesh women’s wing president Madhu Mishra from the party for six years over her controversial “anti-Dalit” remark on Monday.
The incident has occurred at a time, when BJP is trying to woo Dalit voters in Uttar Pradesh where Assembly elections are due early next year and the “anti-Dalit” rant by senior women’s wing leader could cost the BJP dearly.
A huge controversy has erupted over her remarks with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress launching an all out attack on the saffron party. Mishra, while speaking at a function in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh town on Sunday exhorted the “brahmins” to “fight” for their rights lest the day was not far, when those, who once dared not sit near them, should “enslave” them.
