A 27-year-old man who was kidnapped by his one-time partners in crime managed to escape from captivity and inform the police.

On April 9 around 2 am, Mohammed Luqman Pasha, 35, Zahid Khan, 28, and Javed Pasha, 24, had barged into the house of Muzammil Pasha in Bapujinagar. But they didn’t find him. They pounced on his brother Mudassir, bundled him into a car and sped off. They locked him up in Raheel guesthouse in JC Nagar.

The kidnappers called Muddassir’s brother Muzammil and demanded Rs five lakh as ransom. Muzammil went to the police and gave the phone number from which he received the ransom call. The police started tracking the number.

Meanwhile, the abductors learnt that Muzammil had gone to the police. They left Mudassir with Javed and went out. Mudassir managed to escape when Javed was asleep. He reached home and went to the police, accompanied by his brother.

On April 11 around 3 am, the police arrested Luqman from his house in KG Halli. He spilled the beans on his accomplices. Interrogation revealed that Muzammil and the suspects were running a counterfeit currency racket. A year ago, Muzammil had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from the three men but failed to repay and started avoiding them.

The trio asked him to print and circulate fake notes but he refused. They planned to kidnap him instead, a senior police officer said.
