It is said that nothing can hold you back, when true passion drives you. This best describes young Sandalwood actor Shreyas Chinga, who is playing the lead role in Kannada film ‘David’.

Shreyas didn’t walk into the film industry just wanting to be an actor. He first armed himself with whatever he might have required for the film industry before he took the plunge. And one of the first things that he trained himself in was staying positive and having an open mind. He thinks these 2 factors are indispensable to make a mark in any profession.

Shreyas has worked behind the camera on several projects. He was mentored by his father Suri who also happens to be a popular art director. “I chose to be an actor. Coincidentally, my father too is in cinema. Having experimented with dancing, singing, acting in school and a bit of acrobatics as well, I realised that either I was attracted to cinema or cinema was attracted to me,” says Shreyas.

The young actor began his career in theatre, where he worked in over 30 stage shows in Kannada and English.

He also did an acting course with Abhinaya Taranga and Suchitra Film Society and worked on the production side of 3 Bollywood films ‘Calling Mr Joe B Carvalho’, ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ and ‘Shamitabh’ before assisting on the sets of Kannada film ‘Luv U Alia’. “All these projects gave me an insight into different aspects of filmmaking and enriched my knowledge about what goes into making a film. This has also indirectly helped strengthen my acting skills,” says Shreyas.

He has also essayed the role of a mechanic in ‘Rangbirangi’, another Kannada film directed by Mallikarjun Muthalgeri.

His latest project, ‘David’, is a suspense thriller and one of the first things to watch out for are the expressions which Shreyas has worked on a lot. “I play the role of Gautham, a simple boy who is madly in love. A few incidents change his life and the story takes a twist when revenge becomes the central point. I have 2 extreme shades to my character,” explains Shreyas.

The film has also given the young man an opportunity to explore his skills in dancing and perfect his moves in some of the action sequences. “I’ve had the chance to perform a special dance move called ‘liquid popping’, besides getting a chance to learn Taekwondo. Both these forms require me to do very tiring workouts and adhere to a strict diet. It’s tough but I am enjoying the rush,” says Shreyas.

Shreyas hopes to carve a niche for himself in the film industry. “I believe in creating my own sense of style, mannerism and acting skill. I want to create a space of my own and not get ahead by competing with other people. I respect the art form which is why I got into it,” says Shreyas.

Success come to those who wait, thinks Shreyas. He feels failures and disappointments are part and parcel of life.

“I am very confident about my abilities and would like to focus on my goals rather than get stuck in the past,” shares Shreyas.
